Gail and I just got back from a few days in AR. We wondered if we were in AK part of the time. The wildlife came out to play (eat).

SWPA said the water would be off at 10 a.m. and they were right on the money. Funny thing was I was the only one in the parking lot when they went down.

Called Jack, we had planned on fishing the Ackerman Access, but opted for the dam. The fish were everywhere but they were picky, that is…

Until Don showed up. Don is a fish catching machine. His s Bug is a sho nuff killer. He was gracious enough to give me several and I too began to look like an ole’ pro.

Here’s a picture I forgot to post of the Buddy, Lake, Carter and the fish they caught (and cleaned by themselves) when they were deer hunting.

I am in AR for the coming of the New Year and made it out fishing the last two days. I did the Ackerman walk in access on Tuesday and did fair. These area couple of pics from the stabilization work they are doing.

Put in at the dam Wednesday and did better than Tuesday Fished from the bottom of the Long Hole almost to Ace-In-The-Hole. They are also doing some work just past Gene’s.

Caroline’s Birth12/9 and Dedication 12/18/2011

Caroline was born at appx. 9:40 p.m. (Alaska time) on Thursday, December 8, 2011. Mother and baby are doing great. There were a host of family members present to welcome her arrival.

We have not traveled to far from “home” yet but the weather has been pretty nice some snow but mild temperatures. No sign of the baby’s immanent arrival but it can’t be too long!

Confluence 11/10/11

Fished the Confluence yesterday 11/10 and dis pretty good considering the wind was blowing hard right down the river. Did better down rather than up. This is the first fish of the day.

Aso fished the Ackerman access in the afternoon. SWPA predicted shut off at 11 and back on at five. So they shut down at noon and started back at 3 p.m. Got to fish about and hour and it was good.

Is this a proper replacement for angling?

Many modern scholars exhibit a proclivity to chastise the “myth” of the American Dream. Hard, honest work, self-sufficiency, and individualism have become objects of scorn since Upton Sinclair produced his turn-of-the-century commentary on the struggles of the immigrant in “The Jungle.” At this point, I might be inclined to agree. But the monotonous employment in the Alaskan oilfields, if one is careful to notice, provides the laborer a chance that few Americans, or disposable wage-earners in general, get to experience: the sublime surroundings of the Alaskan wilderness, and an exciting and dangerous chance to earn a hefty paycheck. Since I was rehired in August, I have done very little besides work, and there seems to be no evidence of respite. Three weeks on, not quite two weeks off, three more on, and only one off. But the money continues to roll, so my back continues to ache. This particular hitch, however, I have been lucky enough to work in Cook Inlet on a rather small production platform. Three weeks worth of waking to the sight of the Alaskan Range and three of the largest volcanoes in the world seems enough to sustain the mind as the body breaks under a heavy load. But the work is honorable, and though I am but a squire in this chivalrous endeavor, hope remains that at long last I become manifestly a noble member of this body, the Knights of the Rotary Table (oilfield joke).

FSU – Maryland 10/22/11

Gail and I were privileged to get to go to the FSU – Maryland game Saturday. A friend of Brent’s (Butch) on the Slope in AK had a couple of extra tickets (God works in mysterious ways) that he was kind enough to send to us. Sat by Butch’s cousin-in-law Randy and had a nice time talking to him.

We went down Thursday and rested up a bit and had a great time as the Noles got the W.
